Ultra Fractal Tutorial - The Making of "Lords of Arrakis"
Part 8. Creating the "star enhancement" layer.

Page 4. Adjust location.

Step 6. Adjust magnification.

A. With the "star enhancement" layer highlighted, click on the Location tab.

B. Type, or copy and paste, the following number into the Magnification parameter of the Location tab: 548.6564

The reduced image should look like this:

Notice that although the Center parameters in the Location tab have not changed, the position of the now-reduced star enhancement has changed. The star enhancement has moved down approximately 100% and slightly to the right. This is because the center of magnification is not the center of the star, but rather (I believe) the Center parameter as specified in the Location tab.

Now, to see what all this means in terms of the overall image, we'll bring the "star" layer into the image along with the "star enhancement" layer.

Step 7. Turn on visibility of "star" layer.

A. In the Layers tab, click the Visible icon for the "star" layer to the on position.
Make sure the "star enhancement" layer remains highlighted.

The composite image of the "star" and "star enhancement" layers, interacting through the "Lighten" Merge Mode, should look like this:

The next step is to pan the "star enhancement" layer upward and slightly to the left until the star in the "star enhancement" layer is centered over the star in the "star" layer.

Step 8. Pan image.

A. Type, or copy and paste, the following number into the Center (Re) parameter (the X value): 1.151770985061

Then type, or "copy and paste", the following number into the Center (Im) parameter (the Y value): 0.25271292479465

The image should now look like this:

This is just right. Now let's get rid of the patterns outside the area of the star.
