Ultra Fractal Tutorial - The Making of "Lords of Arrakis"
Part 4. Creating the "star" layer.

Page 6. Apply Kaleidoscope transformation.

Step 9. Apply Kaleidoscope transformation.

A. In the Mapping tab, click on the Add icon.

This will cause the Select Transformation dialog box to appear.

B. In the Select Transformation dialog box, in the root of the library, not in any folder, select the "Standard.uxf" transformation file, and, within this file, the Kaleidoscope transformation.
Click on Open.

C. With the Kaleidoscope transformation highlighted in the Mapping tab, enter the parameters shown in the figure below into the Mapping tab.

The value to set into Center (Re) can be copied and pasted. It is 1.15025114513

The value to set into Center (Im) can be copied and pasted. It is 0.2547241320713

The image should now look like this:

This is the star I wanted. But notice the dark spot in the center of the star. When I originally created "Lords of Arrakis," I solved this problem by applying the Clipping transformation to the "star" layer to put a tiny white blocking circle, just slightly bigger than the dark spot, in front of the dark spot.

Further issues about the "star" layer arose later, after development of a subsequent layer, which caused me to decide to add a "star enhancement" layer. As it turned out, the "star enhancement" layer inherently solved the problem of the dark spot as well, negating the need to apply the Clipping transformation to the "star" layer.
