Ultra Fractal Tutorial - The Making of "Lords of Arrakis"
Part 1. Creating the "lords 1" layer.

Page 3. Apply coloring.

Step 6 Copy gradient.

A. On the Ultra Fractal main toolbar, click on the Gradient button.

This will cause the Gradient Editor to appear (and also become the active window), displaying the color gradient for the layer that is currently highlighted in the Layers tab -- in this case, the "lords 1" layer.

This is the default gradient I started with:

B. Highlight and copy (Ctl-C) the block of text located here to the clipboard, then click the "paste" icon on the Ultra Fractal toolbar. This will paste the gradient I used into your "lords 1" layer.

Here is what the new gradient should look like:

The image should now look like this:

Step 7. Select Outside Coloring Algorithm.

A. Changing the coloring algorithm can vastly alter the appearance of an image. One can separately select a coloring formula for the inside coloring region and for the outside coloring region (referring to points that are inside or outside the set of calculated points belonging to the fractal). Click on the Outside tab, thus selecting the outside coloring region.

B. In the outside, tab click on the browse icon.

This will cause the Select Outside Coloring Algorithm dialog box to appear.

C. In the Select Outside Coloring Algorithm dialog box, click on the "Public" folder. Within the "Public" folder select the "dmj.ucl" ultra fractal coloring algorithm file, and, within this file, select the Spiral coloring algorithm then click Open.

The image should now look like this:

D. In the Outside tab, select the "Cube Root" transfer function.

The image should now look like this:
