Step 1. Create development file.
(Tip: Avoid potential "inherited settings" problems by starting each of the 8 parts of this tutorial either with a freshly opened copy of Ultra Fractal or as an uninterrupted continuation from the previous part.)
| A. | Create a development directory to hold the development file.
(Example name: "lords_of_arrakis_tutorial"). |
| B. | Open a fresh copy of Ultra Fractal.
| C. | Save the fractal file in the development directory as "lords_of_arrakis_dev.ufr", the development file.
Step 2. Verify public formulas. |
| A. | Make sure you have the following three public formula sets in your computer's Ultra Fractal formula library: 1) dan.ufm, 2) dmj.ufm, and 3) dmj.ucl. If you don't, you can download them from the online public formula database at http://formulas.ultrafractal.com/.
Or you can skip the verification above and simply update your formula library by: 1) clicking in the Ultra Fractal main menu on "Options / Update Public Formulas" and 2) in the Options dialog box that appears, clicking on "Full formula collection" and then on "OK". (If updating takes more than a couple of minutes, you might need to "shake" the screen refresh mechanism awake by bringing up some other task from the task bar, then returning to the Ultra Fractal screen. You should then get the notification of update completion.)
Step 3. In development file, rename "Background" layer. |
| A. | In the Layers tab of the Fractal Properties Tool Window, right-click on the "Background" layer.
| B. | In the popupu menu that appears, select Rename.
In the highlighted area, type in the new name, "lords 1" (without the quote-marks), and press Enter.
